ANNOUNCING: FRI NON-TENURE-TRACK FACULTY CAREER DEVELOPMENT GRANT

The Feminist Research Institute is now accepting applications for Non-Tenure Track Faculty Career Development Grants. Grants of up to $1000 will be awarded in Fall 2021. These annual grants are intended to support the career development of non-tenure track faculty in Feminist, Queer, Transgender, Critical Race, Black, Latinx, Asian American and Critical Indigenous Studies who are focused on the study of gender and/or sexuality.

Career development funds are available to encourage non-tenure track faculty growth through underwriting pedagogical development and/or the pursuit of scholarly, pedagogical, and creative endeavors. The following provides a sample of covered expenses:

  1. Attending conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and seminars pertaining to either one’s teaching areas or scholarship.
  2. Presenting new research (Poster, Round table, Panel, Musical or other artistic work) or other scholarly work for academic peers.
  3. Resources related to bringing in outside personnel for on-site professional development.
  4. Professional travel to archives, museums, exhibits, historical centers or sites, musical and theater productions directly tied into ones teaching or scholarship.
  5. Support for materials to develop new courses.
  6. Other activities not directly referenced that foster joint faculty-student scholarship or enhance instructional skills (individual or institutional).

Applications are due April 29th by 5:00 PM MST. Please submit the materials listed below in order electronically as one PDF file or .doc/x Word file to Alana Bock at femresin@unm.edu.

Applicants should submit the following required materials in a single computer file (.doc/x or .pdf, please) in the following order:

  1. A cover page with current contact information (department affiliation, campus mail address, e-mail address, and telephone number).
  2. A two-page proposal that clearly explains, in non-specialist language, a) the focus of the proposed project or activity and include dates/times/locations; b) its theoretical/methodological groundings in feminist/LGBT/Queer/Queer of color literature; c) how the funds will be used to advance your work; and finally; d) please specify at least two professional development outcomes that you hope to achieve by engaging in the proposed activity. At least one of those outcomes must demonstrate how the activity/experience will provide a direct influence on teaching and learning individually or institutionally that is in line with the FRI’s mission. (single-spaced, 12-point font).
  3. A brief CV.
  4. A detailed budget that outlines research and/or travel expenses. Please indicate other funding sources pursued (pending or awarded)

Travel for spring applicants should be completed by June 30, 2022. All travel reimbursements must be submitted within 15 days after returning. Each awardee will be required to give a public talk on their research/project the semester after it is completed and will be asked to acknowledge the FRI in any talks, papers, and/or projects that this grant helped to foster.
